The Kali Gandaki Valley carves through one of the world's deepest gorges in Nepal's Mustang region, creating a dramatic high-altitude desert landscape. This ancient trade route between Tibet and India features barren mountains, winding rivers, and remote settlements clinging to the valley floor.
The braided river system spreads across the valley floor, fed by glacial meltwater from the towering Himalayan peaks that rise over 8,000 meters in the distance. Sparse vegetation dots the arid slopes, adapted to the harsh alpine climate.
This landscape represents the rugged beauty of Upper Mustang, a restricted region that preserves traditional Tibetan Buddhist culture and offers some of the most spectacular trekking terrain on Earth.
