The golden sandstone walls of Jaisalmer Fort rise from the Thar Desert, their weathered surfaces bearing centuries of Rajput history. Built in 1156 CE, this living fort continues to house residents within its ancient ramparts.
The afternoon sun casts sharp shadows across the stone courtyard, illuminating the distinctive yellow limestone that earned Jaisalmer its "Golden City" moniker. Sparse desert vegetation dots the arid landscape beyond the fortifications.
From the elevated walkway, visitors trace the same path as merchants and warriors who once traversed these walls guarding the Silk Road trade routes between Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
