The Golden Sentinel of the Thar
Jaisalmer Fort, known locally as Sonar Quila, rises from the desert sands like a mirage of golden sandstone. Built in 1156 AD, this living fort houses nearly a quarter of the city's population within its ancient walls.
Architectural Marvel The fort's distinctive Rajput architecture features intricate jali work, ornate jharokhas (balconied windows), and arched facades that showcase centuries of craftsmanship. The yellow sandstone glows amber in the afternoon sun, earning Jaisalmer its nickname as the Golden City.
