The ancient stone walls of Galle Fort have stood guard over Sri Lanka's southwestern coast for over 400 years. Built by Portuguese colonizers in 1588 and extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, these ramparts represent one of the best-preserved colonial fortifications in Asia.

Today, visitors walk along the same bastions where cannons once defended against invading forces. The thick coral and granite stones have weathered countless monsoons, yet remain solid against the crashing waves of the Indian Ocean below.

From the ramparts, the view stretches across crystal-clear turquoise waters dotted with rocky outcrops. White colonial buildings with red-tiled roofs cluster behind lush tropical trees, while the distinctive white lighthouse stands as a beacon marking this historic port city.
