The Living Night Watch
In the heart of Amsterdam's vibrant Rembrandtplein, visitors encounter one of the city's most interactive art installations. Twenty-two life-size bronze figures from Rembrandt's masterpiece "The Night Watch" stand frozen in mid-procession, inviting tourists to walk among the Dutch Golden Age characters.
A Square Steeped in Art History
The sculptures, created by Russian artists Alexander Taratynov and Georgy Frangulyan in 2006, complement the towering 1852 statue of Rembrandt van Rijn himself. The bronze master stands proudly on his pedestal, surveying the square that bears his name.
