The Last Desert of Europe
The Dunas de Maspalomas represent one of the few true desert landscapes in Europe, a protected natural reserve where golden sand meets the Atlantic Ocean in southern Gran Canaria.
A Fragile Ecosystem
These ancient dunes, formed by trade winds carrying Saharan sand, host unique flora and fauna adapted to harsh coastal desert conditions. Palm oases provide critical shelter in this otherwise barren landscape.
Conservation Legacy
Designated as a Special Nature Reserve since 1987, Maspalomas preserves 404 hectares of pristine dune system, standing as one of the Canary Islands' most ecologically significant protected areas.
