The Armenian Highlands
Southern Armenia's Syunik Province contains some of the Caucasus region's most dramatic geological formations. The Vorotan River has carved this deep gorge over millennia, exposing layered sedimentary rock and creating steep cliffs that rise hundreds of meters above the valley floor.
Biodiversity Hotspot
The mixed deciduous forests covering these slopes represent the characteristic vegetation of the Armenian highlands. Oak, hornbeam, and beech trees dominate the landscape, providing habitat for endemic wildlife species found throughout the Lesser Caucasus mountain range.
