The ancient region of Svaneti in northwestern Georgia offers some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Caucasus. This valley view showcases the town of Mestia, a historic settlement that has served as a gateway to the high Caucasus peaks for centuries.
Dense forests of fir and pine cover the rolling hillsides, while the valley floor reveals glacial deposits and meandering waterways carved by millennia of mountain runoff. The backdrop features the rugged peaks of the Greater Caucasus range, some still bearing year-round snow.
This remote region remained isolated for much of history, preserving unique medieval tower houses and distinct cultural traditions. Today, Mestia serves as a base for trekkers and photographers drawn to the unspoiled mountain wilderness.
