The Sacred Lake of Kandy
Kandy Lake, known locally as Kiri Muhuda (Sea of Milk), sits at the heart of Sri Lanka's cultural capital. The distinctive white Walakulu Wall (Cloud Wall) with its unique triangular battlements encircles the artificial lake, built in 1807 by King Sri Vikrama Rajasinha.
A Living Heritage Site
Today the lake remains a focal point for both pilgrims visiting the nearby Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and tourists exploring this UNESCO World Heritage city. The surrounding hills create a natural amphitheater that has protected Kandy's traditions for centuries.
