The iconic Moai statues of Easter Island stand as silent sentinels against a dramatic Pacific sky. These monolithic figures, carved by the Rapa Nui people between 1250 and 1500 CE, represent deified ancestors watching over the island.
Ahu Tongariki is the largest ceremonial platform on Rapa Nui, featuring 15 restored Moai in a row. The site was restored in the 1990s through a collaboration between Chilean archaeologists and Japanese researchers.
Today, visitors from around the world journey to this remote Polynesian outpost to witness one of humanity's most remarkable archaeological achievements, set against the vast expanse of the South Pacific Ocean.
