The 16th-century El Badi Palace stands as a testament to Morocco's Saadian dynasty glory. Built by Sultan Ahmed al-Mansur in 1578, the palace once dazzled visitors with gold, onyx, and crystal before being stripped by rival dynasties.
Today, the vast rectangular ruins reveal the palace's original grandeur through its massive scale. The sunken central garden, planted with orange trees, mirrors the Islamic paradise garden concept.
Visitors walk the elevated terraces, photographing the storks nesting on ancient ramparts while the Atlas Mountains glow in the distance during Morocco's signature golden hour light.
